Sponsor Our ArticlesSince Donald Trump resumed office on January 20, 2025, his golfing adventures have cost American taxpayers approximately $18 million in just one month. With 13 golf outings in his first 48 days in office, questions arise about the financial implications of such expenditures. Following the trends of previous years, experts warn that these costs could soar to over $151.5 million by the end of his term, amidst stringent security measures. The scrutiny around these outings highlights the growing gap between political promises and actions, raising concerns about the use of public funds.
Since taking office again on January 20, 2025, former President Donald Trump has taken his love for golf to new heights, or should we say new costs? It turns out, his golfing excursions have set American taxpayers back a whopping $18 million within just the first month of his second term. Yes, that’s right—a staggering sum that has raised eyebrows among many folks concerned about where their hard-earned tax dollars are going.
Since his inauguration, Trump has hit the golf course on 13 out of 48 days. That’s a golf day on nearly 27% of his time in office so far! Trump seems to have a particular fondness for his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, having played there on 10 occasions. Not far behind, he’s also managed to tee off three times at his Trump Doral course located near Miami International Airport. No doubt those greens are feeling well worn under his feet!
In case you’re wondering, these golf trips aren’t just about a round of 18 holes. They come with hefty security and travel expenses. A 2019 Government Accountability Office report estimated that each of Trump’s trips to Mar-a-Lago during his first term carried a price tag of around $3,383,250. And you can bet that number has crept higher with inflation. If these spending trends continue, experts predict that we’re looking at a potential total of over $151.5 million in taxpayer money going towards his golf excursions by the end of this term. That’s a lot of cash that could be addressing pressing concerns—think schools, roads, and healthcare!
And let’s not forget about security! Every golf outing requires significant protection, especially in light of recent events. After facing two assassination attempts in 2024, the need for security during these outings has only escalated. Picture this: heavily armed police boats patrolling the Intracoastal Waterway in addition to a Coast Guard vessel stationed nearby, ready for any eventuality. Local law enforcement and bomb-sniffing dogs also play their roles on these outings. All of this adds yet another layer to the ever-growing bill that taxpayers will have to foot.
Interestingly, shortly after taking office, Trump shared with the public that he wouldn’t be playing golf while serving as president. However, it didn’t take long for the reality to set in. Anytime you see him on the course, it’s a stark reminder of the gap between what leaders say and what they do. On March 8, for example, Trump arrived at Trump International Golf Club just after 8:15 AM and headed back to Mar-a-Lago around 1:23 PM. It seems the call of the greens is hard to resist!
The ongoing scrutiny surrounding Trump’s golf outings raises important questions about the financial burden on taxpayers. Many are asking whether the frequent trips are a good use of public funds, especially when we face so many economic and social challenges as a nation. As his love for golf is well-documented, it remains to be seen how it will play out in the context of his presidency.
As the weeks go by, and with golf season in full swing, it’s likely that these costs will only continue to rise. It’s a striking example of how one person’s passion can significantly impact the wallets of everyday citizens. Stay tuned as this story develops, and let’s keep an eye on those golf outings!
