Tampa Partners with Kendra Scott for Children’s Health Fundraiser

In Tampa, Muma Children’s Hospital at Tampa General Hospital has launched a new holiday fundraiser in collaboration with renowned jewelry designer Kendra Scott. This initiative aims to enhance pediatric care, spotlighting the inspiring story of 10-year-old Keetzally Baca, who collaborated on the jewelry collection to aid young patients like herself.

The Collaborative Collection

Keetzally, who faced significant health challenges due to serious kidney problems since birth, underwent numerous surgeries and received a kidney transplant at Tampa General Hospital in 2022. In a heartwarming twist of events, she worked with Kendra Scott to design a collection of jewelry that reflects her journey and dedication to helping other children in similar situations.

Kickoff Event Details

The excitement surrounding this collaboration will be kicked off with a special event on December 4, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Kendra Scott store located in Hyde Park Village, at 1511 W. Swann Ave. During this event, shoppers can contribute to the cause as 20% of all in-store purchases will directly benefit Muma Children’s Hospital.

Online Support until December 13

For those unable to attend in person, the jewelry collection will also be available for online purchase. Shoppers can use the code “GIVEBACK-HFOBA” at checkout for any purchases made online until December 13, ensuring that more people can participate in supporting the pediatric care efforts.

Additional Fundraising Efforts in the Community

Tampa is witnessing an array of community-driven initiatives aimed at supporting various causes this holiday season. One such effort includes a month-long fundraising event organized by Haven to benefit Florida Giant Dog Rescue, a nonprofit that focuses on rescuing and rehoming large dog breeds.

Meanwhile, as Thanksgiving approaches, Metropolitan Ministries reports a concerning 23% decline in donations relative to last year, while the demand for assistance has surged by 20%. This intersection of need highlights the growing challenges faced by families in the area.

Community Support after Natural Disasters

In response to the recent hurricanes, the Hillsborough and Pinellas Education Foundations have successfully raised $2.8 million to aid schools, students, and educators affected by the storms. Additionally, the Mike Alstott Family Foundation has contributed to community welfare by providing traditional Thanksgiving dinners to all 46 Hillsborough County Fire Rescue stations for the sixth consecutive year.

Significant Contributions to Education and Health

In terms of educational support, the University of South Florida recently received a generous $6.5 million estate gift aimed at bolstering the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Center & Research Institute. This anonymous donation is a part of ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare research and community support.

Furthering the cause of children’s health, local restaurateur Richard Gonzmart made headlines with his latest contribution of $1 million to Jesuit High School, complementing his extensive history of support for the institution. Additionally, Scott and Kathy Fink have donated $5 million to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Foundation to improve healthcare for children in West Central Florida.

Conclusion

The strong community spirit in Tampa is evident through these multiple initiatives aimed at improving the lives of children and families in need. From a jewelry collection designed to support health care to ongoing efforts to alleviate hunger and aid education, the collaborative efforts in the region are setting a positive example, particularly during this season of giving.
