In addition to the Strawberry Festival, Tampa recently hosted the world premiere of “Atone: A Blink Film” on December 9. This film is the second installment in a trilogy focused on the themes of gun violence, created by Safe & Sound Hillsborough. The event included a community discussion that highlighted the intense realities faced by victims and their families, serving as a stark reminder of the far-reaching effects of gun violence.
Filmed locally, the short film drives home the harsh challenges for those who are affected by such violence. Executive Producer Freddy Barton emphasized the importance of community awareness, citing the recent surge in youth-related gun incidents as a pressing issue that demands attention.
The local theater scene is also abuzz with the upcoming production of “Matt & Ben” by ThinkTank Theatre. The comedy, co-written by Mindy Kaling and Brenda Withers, will run for one weekend only, from January 23 to January 26, 2025. Directed by Matthew McGee, the play portrays the challenges faced by the title characters in pursuit of their dreams amidst the backdrop of Hollywood.
Starring Georgia Mallory Guy and Julia Rifino, the performance promises to deliver a humorous take on ambition and the entertainment industry. Tickets for this engaging production start at $20.
