Phoenix Welcomes New Faces to Papago Golf Club
In the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, a buzz of excitement is in the air as Papago Golf Club recently introduced two new key players in their lineup. Say hello to Zach Amsler, who has stepped into the role of head golf professional, and Derek Crawford, who takes charge as tournament director. With aspirations to elevate the club’s offerings, both professionals bring a wealth of experience and passion to the table.
Meet Zach Amsler
For those who may not know, Zach Amsler isn’t new to Papago Golf Club; in fact, he has been an integral part of the team since 2020. Before his recent promotion, he showcased his skills as the club’s tournament director, making him a familiar face in the community. Amsler, who graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 2019, completed the prestigious Professional Golf Management Program and earned membership in the PGA of America the following year.
His journey into the golf world began at the young age of 14, working as a caddie at Moraine Country Club in Kettering, Ohio. Since then, he has worked at various golf establishments across Ohio, Indiana, and Florida, ultimately landing in Arizona. Amsler is brimming with enthusiasm about his new position, eager to promote and grow the love of golf at Papago. “It’s an honor to be the head golf professional here,” he said. “I can’t wait to make an impact.”
Derek Crawford Takes the Helm as Tournament Director
Joining Amsler is Derek Crawford, who has over 40 years of experience in the golf industry. As it turns out, Derek is the identical twin of the club’s general manager, Daryl Crawford, and the duo spent their youth working together in the bag room at the Orange Tree Golf Resort in Scottsdale. Over the years, they’ve shared plenty of experiences, including stints as tour reps for PING – with Derek focusing on the PGA TOUR and Daryl on the European Tour.
More recently, Derek has held leadership positions at several clubs throughout the Phoenix area, including roles as the general manager at Raven Golf Club, ASU Karsten Golf Course, and Coldwater Golf Club. Daryl expressed his excitement about bringing both Zach and Derek onto the team, stating, “I’m incredibly excited with our key additions. We have high expectations for both of these leaders.”
