In a thrilling start to the Women’s South Atlantic Amateur Golf Championship, affectionately known as The SALLY, North Florida’s very own Paige Schroeder has already made her mark. The redshirt sophomore and Alabama transfer kicked off the tournament with a stellar round, snagging four birdies along the way. Despite a couple of bogeys, she walked off the course with a remarkable score of 2-under, placing her firmly at the top of the leaderboard by a single stroke!
As the sun blazed down on the historical Oceanside Country Club, a renowned course dating back to 1907, Schroeder showcased her prowess against a field of fierce competition. Hot on her heels are golfers like Morgan Ketchum from Virginia Tech and Lyla Louderbaugh from Kansas, alongside last year’s champion, Kary Hollenbaugh from Ohio State, all tied for second place at 1-under.

Four other talented players, including Thanana Kotchasanmanee, Avery McCrery, Tavia Burgess, and Chloe Schiavone from Virginia, are within striking distance, all sitting at even par. For those who may not know, Schroeder is no stranger to the competitive golf scene. Currently, she is ranked No. 208 in the prestigious Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women’s Rankings. Earlier in her junior career, she was ranked as the top player in the class of 2023, and she even held the title of the top-ranked junior girl’s golfer according to the AJGA.
She has quite an impressive resume under her belt! In 2023, she earned an invite to the highly coveted Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) and made her LPGA debut at the Evian Championship. Her accolades include being a three-time AJGA All-American, receiving First Team All-American honors in 2022, and earning recognition as the 2022 AJGA Rolex Player of the Year.
Not to mention, in 2022, she won two significant tournaments: the AJGA Rolex Girls Invitational and the Girls Junior PGA Championship. Her experience also includes representing Team USA at the 2021 Team Junior Solheim Cup, where she showcased her skills on an international stage. Recently, she made it to the Round of 16 at the Women’s Western Amateur and tied for fifth at the Sea Island Women’s Amateur in 2024, proving that she continues to improve her game.
The SALLY is a storied tournament, having been hosted at the Oceanside Country Club since 1926, and it brings together the best amateur golfers from across the nation. Over the years, many participants have transitioned into the professional ranks of the LPGA, making this tournament a key stepping stone for aspiring golfers.
