New Tampa Community Reels from Murder-Suicide Incident Investigation

New Tampa Faces Tragedy with Murder-Suicide Investigation

New Tampa is grappling with a heartbreaking incident following a murder-suicide that took place on the evening of December 18, 2024. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is actively investigating this troubling event that has left the community in shock.

What Happened?

At approximately 6:31 p.m., HCSO’s Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 18000 block of Royal Forest Drive. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Steven Glantz, a 67-year-old male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

Details of the Incident

Witnesses and surveillance footage captured a man approaching Glantz’s home just before the shots were fired. The footage indicates that after multiple gunshots were heard, the same individual fled the scene on foot.

Following the initial response, deputies expanded their search in the area, enlisting the help of the HCSO’s K-9 Section. This search led them to nearby grounds, where they found Timothy Lobianco, a 66-year-old neighbor of Glantz, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Lobianco was pronounced dead at the scene, prompting an investigation into the relationship between the two men.

Investigation Status

The HCSO has confirmed that Glantz and Lobianco were neighbors, raising questions about the events leading up to this tragic incident. The investigation remains active, and detectives are working diligently to uncover the circumstances that preceded the shooting.

Community Response

In light of this staggering loss of life, Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his sympathy for the victim’s family. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family during this unimaginable loss,” he stated. “This tragic event serves as a painful reminder of the devastating effects of senseless violence on our community. HCSO is committed to supporting the grieving families as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”

Next Steps

The public is reminded that this is an ongoing investigation, and further information will be released by the HCSO Public Affairs Office as it becomes available. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in shedding light on this tragic situation.

The New Tampa community continues to come to terms with the aftermath of this distressing event, as neighbors reflect on the impact of such violence and loss in their neighborhood.
