Did you know there are around 3,000 golf courses in the UK alone, and a staggering 39,000 worldwide? Among the many new developments popping up, two new golf courses in Scotland are opening this summer, and they’re eyeing a spot in the prestigious Top 100 rankings. Talk about competition! One of these new entrants is even offering a ‘preview play’ discount for eager golfers between August and September.
The excitement doesn’t stop there! The unique design of the new Highlands course features holes that actually cross over each other, making every turn utterly thrilling. Plus, this course pays homage to the historic Old Petty Church, ensuring a rich blend of history and modern golfing fun!
The preview play opportunity on the Scots course starts from August 1 to September 30, with costs kicking off at £190 per person. Sounds like it’s worth it for a chance to play on a brand-new course, right?
The latest development, the 18-hole MacLeod Course at Trump International, is ambitious! It features the world’s largest natural bunker and is crafted from a variety of stunning terrains, including heathlands, wetlands, and dunes. With such a diverse layout, it promises to offer a gripping challenge to players of all skill levels.
The excitement is palpable, as Trump’s son has stated that every single hole on the course is breathtaking. Joining the cheering squad is none other than two-time major champion John Daly, who is stoked about this new addition, calling it one of the most extraordinary links courses globally!
Despite the thrilling developments, it hasn’t been smooth sailing financially for Trump International. Reports indicate pre-tax losses reached a whopping $1.83 million in 2023, marking the 11th consecutive year of losses. To give you an idea of the scale, that totals around $20 million over the years! Interestingly, while Trump International has grappled with these losses, Trump Turnberry has seen its fortunes rise from $250,000 in pre-tax profits to nearly $5 million in the same year.
In addition to its varied performances, accounts reveal a significant £4.8 million loan from DJT Holdings to Trump International, blowing total borrowings to £11.8 million. Ouch! And while plans for a major residential property project were on the table, that hasn’t yet come to fruit.
As the countdown continues for opening day, it is noted that Martin Hawtree, the talented designer known for his work on notable courses like the Old Course at St. Andrews, has chalked out the plans for this spectacular new course. Such expertise should certainly elevate its status in the golfing community!
Exciting times are on the horizon, and all eyes will be on the new MacLeod Course at Trump International, which is ready to compete with the existing championship course that opened back in 2012. Will it spark a golf renaissance or become just another addition to the list? We can’t wait to find out!
