Sponsor Our ArticlesThirteen golf courses in Michigan have been recognized among the top 200 resort courses in the United States by Golfweek. The same courses have retained their prestigious rankings, with notable mentions such as the Masterpiece at Treetops Resort making a significant climb. Michigan’s golf scene is flourishing with exciting future developments, including the upcoming SkyFall course, promising thrilling experiences for golfers.
Good news for golf lovers! Thirteen stunning golf courses tucked away in the picturesque resorts of Michigan have been recognized as some of the finest in the entire United States. Yes, you heard that right! According to a recent list released by Golfweek, these courses have strutted their stuff right onto the prestigious ranking of the top 200 resort courses. How exciting is that?
What’s even more interesting is that the same lucky 13 courses made the cut in the 2025 edition as well! It seems these greens are quite remarkable, as Michigan’s top seven courses haven’t changed from last year’s rankings, proving that they are truly top-tier destinations for golfers seeking the quintessential golfing experience.
Out of the spotlight, the Masterpiece at Treetops Resort has made headlines by making the biggest leap on the list, rising a whopping 45 spots to grab the No. 147 position overall, and landing the eighth spot in Michigan! This course has clearly become a favorite for both locals and visitors alike.
In terms of prestige, the original course at Arcadia Bluffs continues to dazzle, holding strong to its spot at No. 27 overall. Meanwhile, the dynamic duo of courses at Forest Dunes is also making waves. The Loop is parked at No. 30 and another layout at No. 61, offering an exciting golfing experience that keeps players coming back for more.
As a point of comparison, the illustrious Pebble Beach Golf Links in California holds the coveted top spot, followed closely by the breathtaking Pacific Dunes at Bandon Dunes in Oregon and the legendary Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina. The competition is stiff, but that makes Michigan’s achievements all the more impressive!
Golfweek employs over 800 raters globally to evaluate golf courses based on ten specific criteria. It’s worth noting that these ratings solely focus on the courses themselves, and not on resort amenities or pricing, which makes Michigan’s recognition even more remarkable!
Michigan has earned a fabulous reputation for its stunning “Up North” vacation golf getaways at stay-and-play resorts. In fact, Forest Dunes Golf Club in Roscommon is planning to take things a step further by expanding its offerings. Exciting news awaits, as they are set to add a brand new 18-hole championship golf course named SkyFall! This new venture promises to give golfers yet another exhilarating way to enjoy the great outdoors.
Construction for SkyFall is anticipated to kick off in late 2025, designed by the acclaimed architects Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner. This course will offer a thrilling golfing experience with elevation changes of up to 70 feet over a sprawling 300 acres of stunning forested terrain, creating the perfect backdrop for a fantastic day on the golf course.
The existing offerings at Forest Dunes are also noteworthy, with its original resort course designed by the talented Tom Weiskopf, the innovative reversible course called The Loop by Tom Doak, and a short course known as The Bootlegger. It’s no wonder that the original resort course is celebrated as one of the top public courses in the nation!
In fact, the original course at Forest Dunes currently ranks No. 32 on Golf Digest’s list of the top 100 public courses across the country. The Loop has also earned its share of recognition, sitting at the impressive rankings of 58th and 69th due to its unique design that features two courses based on the direction of play.
With the announcement of SkyFall and the incredible success of so many courses, it’s evident that Michigan’s golf scene is in the midst of a fantastic renaissance. The golf business in the state is thriving with several new courses and renovations on the horizon. It’s a wonderful time to be a golf enthusiast in Michigan, and there’s never been a better opportunity to explore these breathtaking courses!
So, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a casual player, make sure to check out the amazing offerings Michigan has in store. Happy golfing!
