In a decisive action aimed at curbing rising crime rates, nearly 20 individuals, including a 19-year-old, were arrested on Friday, December 13, in Tampa, Florida. This effort was part of a joint operation conducted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the Tampa Police Department, and the Florida Department of Corrections.
Among the individuals taken into custody was Brandon Landaverde, a 19-year-old resident of the area. Reports indicate that he had a loaded gun in his vehicle during a traffic stop at the intersection of North 15th Street and East Fowler Avenue. This incident revealed that Landaverde is a three-time convicted felon, which led to charges including carrying a concealed firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was already on probation when arrested.
Authorities arrested a total of 17 individuals, and as part of the operation, they conducted 146 traffic stops around the area. Law enforcement officials also seized two firearms and $1,400 in cash. The operation’s goal was to address recent crime trends and enhance public safety within the community.
This significant operation occurred in Hillsborough County, primarily in Tampa, on December 13. The collaboration between different law enforcement agencies underscores the emphasis on community safety and crime prevention.
Officials from HCSO emphasized the importance of proactive measures to tackle crime. Sheriff Chad Chronister stated that the operation showcased the effectiveness of cooperative efforts amongst various agencies. He remarked, “These results highlight the importance of proactive partnerships between agencies to keep our community safe. By working together, we’re making it clear that illegal activity has no place in Hillsborough County.”
The investigation stemming from this operation is still open, with law enforcement officials continuing to explore the connections and circumstances surrounding the arrests. The authorities encourage individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities within their neighborhoods.
In addition to the criminal activities addressed in this operation, residents in the area have been alerted to possible scams. Several viewers recently reported receiving suspicious text messages claiming to be from the United States Postal Service. An inspector from the Postal Service has advised the public to be cautious and verify the authenticity of such communications to avoid falling victim to scams.
As law enforcement agencies remain active in combating crime in Tampa, their collaborative efforts serve as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation. With ongoing investigations, officials continue to focus on making the streets safer for all residents.
