As outdoor golf driving ranges disappear from the landscape of Southwest Florida, a new trend is making waves—indoor golf simulators. More and more people are discovering the joy of teeing off without needing to brave the elements. One exciting example of this trend is The Cave, a unique indoor golfing haven located at 9250 Corkscrew Road, Suite 13, Estero. Opened on February 4 by golf enthusiasts Karen Nicoletti and Brad Swearingen, The Cave stands out with its combination of a bar, food offerings, and three state-of-the-art golf simulators.
Those who love golf but are finding it harder to find a place to play can now enjoy simulated rounds in a cozy indoor setting. The Cave is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and you can book a simulator for just $50 an hour. Each simulator can accommodate up to six players, making it a perfect outing for friends or family. You’re not just out to swing; you can munch on some delicious pizza, wings, and other appetizers while you play!
According to Nicoletti, a pro golfer with the LPGA, the pandemic actually sparked a renewed interest in golf. She notes, “Public golf courses are hitting their all-time high. But it’s tough for the average person to be able to afford the sport.” With the expense of real courses, like the iconic Pebble Beach costing under $800 for a round, many golfers are turning to the simulator for a more affordable experience.
As golf ranges turn into distribution warehouses or grocery stores, indoor simulators only require a few hundred square feet to set up. After Swearingen faced a back injury which halted his caddying career, he decided it was time for a new plan. Nicoletti shared, “When he was recovering, he needed a Plan B. He opened up The Cave. The Man Cave. He pretty much built it with his own two hands.” And what a fantastic Plan B it has turned out to be!
What truly sets The Cave apart is its focus on inclusivity. Nicoletti emphasized, “Coming here, you don’t have to worry about being intimidated. This is a place where beginners, advanced, intermediate can come and enjoy themselves without that intimidation factor.” There are also special events like free women’s golf clinics every Monday and enticing discounts for veterans, police, firefighters, emergency medical services, and educators.
Swearingen demonstrated the technology of their simulators by launching a golf ball into the screen, where it then followed a simulated trajectory. They offer a true-to-life golf experience that includes shots from sand traps and putting greens. Swearingen mentions, “It might take a little getting used to. But it’s so accurate and so realistic that you soon think you’re really out on the golf course.” Imagine seeing your virtual shot roll towards the green as if you were actually there!
Looking forward, The Cave has plans to expand its offerings with two indoor pickleball courts later this year. So whether you’re swinging clubs or spiking balls, it seems The Cave is shaping up to be the ultimate indoor sports venue in Estero. It’s a vibrant place where golfers and athletes of all backgrounds can come together, enjoy the game, and share in the fun—without ever having to step outside!
So, grab your friends, head over to The Cave, and enjoy a round of golf like never before while savoring tasty treats. No green fees, no waiting, just pure golfing bliss!
