The Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA) marked its 20th anniversary on January 22, 2025, during an annual meeting at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The event saw the induction of new members and a celebration of the organization’s growth, coinciding with the 2025 PGA Merchandise Show. The GTWA’s executive director expressed enthusiasm for upcoming changes, including the first outing of the year scheduled for January 23 at Heathrow Legacy Country Club, featuring significant venue upgrades.
The Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA) kicked off the year with a bang! On January 22, 2025, the organization celebrated its 20th anniversary during their annual meeting held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The timing couldn’t have been better, as it coincided with the 2025 PGA Merchandise Show, making it a perfect gathering spot for golf enthusiasts.
Established in 2005, GTWA thrives on the passion of its members, all focused on advocating for journalists who specialize in the exciting world of golf travel. This year, the gathering was extra special because they welcomed several new faces into their ranks, adding to the rich tapestry of the organization’s membership.
Among the new members are some prominent figures in the golf writing scene, including former presidents of the Golf Writers of America, Gary D’Amato and Gary Van Sickle. The lineup also features the veteran golf travel writer Tom Bedell and the innovative New York Golf Magazine publisher John Glozek, who also wears the hat of president of the International Network of Golf. Even the popular television show host of Traveling Golfer, Tony Leodora, joined the exciting mix!
A few other newly tapped members include Bill Cuebas, Mike May, Lewis Markham, Kathlene Bissell, Larry Baush, and Anthony Pioppi, all of whom are set to bring their unique insights and experiences to the organization. The energy in the room was palpable as they shared stories and built connections that would surely strengthen the golf travel community.
Earlier in the week, events leading up to the meeting included the GTWA’s annual golf tournament, where Lewis Markham emerged as the champion. The tournament took place at the sleek Mission Resort + Club, situated just north of Orlando. It was a great way to merge friendly competition with a shared love of the sport!
Len Ziehm, executive director of GTWA, expressed excitement over the growing interest and enthusiasm during the organization’s reorganization efforts. The GTWA is getting ready for some significant changes, as they are finalizing their registration as a non-profit organization in Florida. With a newly structured board, there are plenty of plans in the pipeline for member outings throughout 2025!
The first outing of the year is already on the calendar for January 23, at the elegant Heathrow Legacy Country Club. This event is being organized by Michael Abramowitz, the publicist for Concert Golf Partners, and it promises to showcase a whopping $3 million investment in upgrades at the venue. Golf lovers are in for a treat as they get to enjoy two exquisite courses designed by Ron Garl and Tom Fazio.
The GTWA boasts a diverse group of members that includes writers, editors, producers, and podcasters—all dedicated to the vibrant world of golf travel. Additionally, the organization provides corporate memberships tailored for officials from golf courses and resorts, along with golf-industry PR and marketing professionals.
