Pace Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Veterans

Pace: Golf and Giving Back, A Winning Combo for Veterans

In Pace, Florida, a hole-in-one isn’t just about scoring big on the golf course—it’s about scoring big for veterans. Every year, a dedicated group of veterans and civilians gets together to tee off for an incredible cause. Yep, you guessed it! The Emerald Coast Veterans Alliance (ECVA) has been making waves in the community, all while helping veterans live better lives.

Golf for a Cause

Who knew playing golf could help so many heroes in need? It all started a few years back when this passionate group decided to hold a golf tournament that not only lets them indulge in their love for the sport but also raises money for veterans’ organizations in Northwest Florida. They took this fun idea and crafted it into the annual Veterans Day Benefit Golf Tournament at Stonebrook Golf Club, and let me tell you, it has turned into a fantastic success! In fact, since its inception, the ECVA has handed out over $140,000 in grants to various veterans’ groups. That’s a lot of dough going to some very deserving folks!

Grant Winners Make the Most of Their Support

At a recent event at Stonebrook Golf Club, the ECVA handed out a whopping $12,000 in grants to three inspiring organizations. Let’s take a closer look at what these amazing groups do:

  • Honor HER Foundation in Pensacola: This fantastic foundation provides housing for homeless female veterans. With a commitment to help these women regain their footing, the foundation oversees an eight-bedroom home that not only offers shelter but a sense of community. Barbara Francis, president of Honor HER, shared a heartwarming story about a resident reconnecting with her family after nearly 40 years apart—talk about powerful change!
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4833 in Milton: For over 50 years, this post has been supporting veterans in various ways. Retired Navy Senior Chief Sue Pike mentioned how the grant would help with critical repairs for veterans’ homes. After harsh hurricanes left many struggling, this money will help veterans with roofs and other necessary repairs. They’re all about lifting up their community when it needs it most!
  • Project Healing Waters Pensacola: This unique organization is all about fly fishing, and they say the water has magical, healing properties. Former U.S. Navy pilot Mick Milo explains how being on the water helps veterans with issues like PTSD. They teach veterans to tie flies, build rods, and cast with the aim of restoring peace and comfort to their lives. Plus, they take the veterans on wonderful trips to scenic rivers in Georgia and Tennessee—how cool is that?

The Heart Behind the Efforts

The ECVA president, retired Army Colonel Bucky Howle, made a strong point about how essential these contributions are. “It’s vital for us to do all we can for those who served honorably,” he said. This year’s awarding of grants demonstrates just how committed they are to uplifting veterans in the community. It’s not just about the money, it’s about the lives they’re changing!

Mark Your Calendars

If you’re looking for a way to give back while enjoying a day on the golf course, mark your calendars! The next Veterans Day Benefit Golf Tournament is set for November 11, 2025. Join these incredible individuals in supporting our veterans while having a great time on the green!

Thank You, Golf and Community!

So, as the sun sets on another successful golf tournament in Pace, it’s clear that not only is golf a sport that brings joy and camaraderie, but it’s also a powerful tool for change. The Emerald Coast Veterans Alliance is proving that with a little creativity and a lot of heart, we can make the world a better place for our veterans. Here’s to more birdies, more camaraderie, and many more lives changed!
