Florida Women’s Golf Team Kicks Off Spring Season with a Flourishing Win

The excitement was palpable as the Florida Women’s Golf team launched its spring season at the prestigious Sea Best Intercollegiate tournament on January 28, 2025. Spanning across the beautiful greens of the San Jose Country Club, this tournament gathered fierce competition from 15 schools, each ready to showcase their skills and determination.

Gators’ Stunning Performance

Our incredible Gators truly brought their A-game, finishing the tournament at an impressive 7-under par. This outstanding performance propelled them to a well-deserved victory, coming in three strokes ahead of Illinois State, who put up a valiant effort but ultimately couldn’t match Florida’s momentum.

During the first round, Florida registered the best score among all participating teams, achieving a remarkable -5. The team maintained that competitive edge through the second round with a score of -2. It was clear from the outset that Florida was not leaving anything on the table.

A Star is Born

One player who really lit up the tournament was freshman Addison Klonowski. She dazzled spectators with her exceptional play, racking up an astounding total of 11 birdies over the two rounds. Klonowski’s magic happened during the first round when she made four consecutive birdies from holes 3 to 6, a feat that put her at the top of the individual leaderboard for a significant chunk of the tournament. By the end of the competition, she tied for 6th place overall with a score of -2.

A Nail-Biter Until the End

The thrill didn’t end there. After two rounds, Florida and Illinois State found themselves in a dead heat at -7 each. Spectators held their breath as the Redbirds executed their best round in program history with a jaw-dropping score of -9 in round two, making the final round an electrifying showdown.

Fresh Talent Shines

Florida’s success was bolstered by not just one, but multiple standout performances. Both freshman Elaine Widjaja and sophomore Inès Archer put on an exceptional display, finishing the tournament at 4-under (140), showcasing the bright future of Gator golf. Archer, who previously finished T2 at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in 2024, and Widjaja, who claimed T8 in the Cougar Classic the fall prior, proved that they are a force to be reckoned with on the green.

Taking Home the Trophy

This victory represents a significant milestone for the team, marking their third consecutive win and the ninth time in program history that Florida has scored three tournaments in back-to-back seasons. It’s a testament to the hard work and teamwork that defines the spirit of Gator golf.

As the echoes of this triumphant win continue to resonate, the team looks ahead to their next big challenge: the Therese Hession Regional starting on February 2, 2025. With tons of confidence and fervor based on their latest performance, fans can be sure the Gators are ready to tackle whatever comes next.
