At the forefront is Thomas Detry, who kicked off his year with a bang, securing an impressive T5 finish at *The Sentry*, waving hello to Maui, Hawai’i, from January 2-5, 2025. Not one to rest on his laurels, Detry continued to show off his skills by making the cut at the *Sony Open* the very next week! Presently, he ranks No. 59 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), holding the esteemed title of the highest-ranked former Illini player. It’s safe to say the spotlight is shining brightly on him!
Joining Detry are other distinguished *Fighting Illini* alumni, Nick Hardy and Brian Campbell. The excitement of watching these three talented golfers play alongside each other is palpable at both the *Sony Open* and the *American Express* held in La Quinta, California. This week, they are back at it again at the *Farmers Insurance Open* at the iconic *Torrey Pines*, a picturesque venue that adds a scenic touch to their competition.
On a slightly different note, Thomas Pieters is busy taking on challenges in his career by making the move from *Range Goats GC* to *4Aces GC* in his third season of the *LIV Golf League*. After renovations in 2022, *Atkins Golf Club* is ready to shine, having already showcased events like the *Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate* in 2023 and 2024. The team’s heart-pounding performance at the *2024 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship*, where they pushed hard to tie for fifth place against Georgia Tech, remind us of the thrilling action that golf can deliver.
