Founding

Established in 1915 by Juan Moré, an immigrant from northern Spain, La Segunda Central Bakery was originally part of a co-op of three bakeries: La Primera, La Segunda, and La Tercera. However, only La Segunda survived the Great Depression and has continued to thrive for over a century.

Legacy

The bakery has been owned and operated by the Moré family for four generations. It is credited with developing modern Cuban bread, inspired by a recipe Juan Moré learned while serving in Cuba during the Spanish-American War.

Cuban Bread

La Segunda is renowned for its Cuban bread, made using a traditional recipe and process. The loaves are baked with a palmetto leaf on top, creating a distinct crackly crust and a soft, pillowy interior. The bakery produces 18,000 loaves daily, supplying both local and distant markets.

Sandwiches

A variety of authentic Cuban sandwiches are available, including:

• Media Noche – A slightly sweeter version on soft bread
