Sponsor Our ArticlesThirsty Buffalo Brewing Company has introduced a USF-themed Brahman Golden Ale in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. This craft beer not only offers a refreshing taste for fans but also supports student-athletes, with a portion of proceeds going to the Fowler Avenue Collective. Founded by USF alumnus Mike Bishop and his wife Erin, the brewery aims to foster community spirit among sports lovers. The Brahman Golden Ale can be found at BurgerFi on the USF campus, with plans to distribute it more widely. Upcoming events include a watch party where fans can enjoy complimentary beer.
In the heart of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, a brewing company has transformed a love for college sports into a refreshing new beverage. Thirsty Buffalo Brewing Company proudly launched its Brahman Golden Ale in February, a delicious craft beer inspired by the University of South Florida (USF). For all USF fans and beer lovers, this is exciting news that combines two of life’s great joys.
What sets the Brahman Golden Ale apart from the crowd is its purpose. A portion of the proceeds from each sale goes toward the Fowler Avenue Collective, USF’s very own NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) collective, which supports student-athletes. Revenue from beer sales has already hit around $2,000 within just two months of the launch, allowing fans to contribute to their favorite athletes while enjoying a cold beverage. It’s a win-win situation!
The man making this all happen is Mike Bishop, co-founder of Thirsty Buffalo and a proud USF finance alumnus from the class of 2006. With degrees in both finance and brewing from the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, Bishop’s unique expertise is bubbling over in this delightful golden ale. Partnering with his wife, Erin, the couple opened the brewery this year, and it marked the beginning of an exciting venture in Odessa.
The collaboration between Thirsty Buffalo Brewing and the Fowler Avenue Collective emerged from Bishop’s friendship with Andy Taylor, director of the USF Alumni Association. Inspired by similar initiatives from other universities, including Cincinnati’s NIL collective, they tapped into the growing trend of supporting student-athletes through local business partnerships.
The Brahman Golden Ale is not just about giving back; it’s also about enjoying a great beer. This light and refreshing brew boasts a balanced mix of hops and malt, making it easy to drink even for those who might not typically reach for a beer. Designed with tailgating and sporting events in mind, it embodies the spirit of USF perfectly, offering a taste that fans can appreciate while they cheer on their teams.
Searching for this unique brew? Look no further than BurgerFi on the USF Tampa campus, where it is currently available on tap. But that’s not all—plans are in motion to expand its distribution to popular venues like the Yuengling Center for basketball games and Raymond James Stadium for thrilling football matchups. Grab a six-pack for about $13.99, and be part of the fun!
Mark your calendars! A watch party for the USF vs. Memphis men’s basketball game is set for March 7, where USF alumni can show their membership cards to snag a complimentary beer. This event promises a great sense of camaraderie among fellow fans, all while supporting the student-athletes through their beer purchases.
At Thirsty Buffalo Brewing, the aim isn’t just to sell beer; it is to build a community-focused atmosphere that allows fans to rally behind USF athletics. Whether it’s tailgating, enjoying a game day at home, or gathering with friends over delicious food and drink, the Brahman Golden Ale serves as a perfect companion for any USF supporter.
So next time you’re in the mood for a refreshing brew, think about raising a glass of Brahman Golden Ale. Not only will you be treating yourself, but you’ll also be supporting the future stars of USF athletics with every sip!
