UNI Men’s Golf Team Wraps Up Tough Start at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

The UNI men’s golf team kicked off their 2025 season at the betting-stakes Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, held in the sunny locales of Palm Desert, California. Despite the picture-perfect weather and beautiful surroundings, things didn’t quite go the way the team hoped. They finished in 15th place out of 15 teams—a tough pill to swallow.

An Overview of the Tournament

The competition was fierce! Teams from around the country came to battle it out, and it was Charlotte University that took home the glory, scoring a whopping 833 (-31) overall. But hats off to Xavier Bighaus from Colorado Christian who snagged the individual championship with a dazzling score of 204 (-12)—a performance that left everyone in awe.

Round One Highlights

In the first round, UNI’s very own JD Pollard led the charge, shooting a solid score of 73 (+1), which placed him tied for 46th. Not too shabby! Following closely was sophomore Tanner Dinnebier, who managed to put up a score of 75 (+3), landing him in a tie for 64th. Then came Connor VanWeelden with a score of 77 (+5), which put him in 76th. On a tougher note, Calen Bishop struggled a bit with an 83 (+11), tying for 86th, while Brock Seiser finished with 85 (+13).

Round Two Performances

Things started to look a little brighter in round two! Tanner Dinnebier stepped up to be UNI’s top performer with another score of 73 (+1), giving him a tie for 59th. JD Pollard also matched his game with a 75 (+3), ending up in the same spot. Connor VanWeelden followed with a 75 (+3) score as well, tying for 72nd. However, Calen Bishop managed to improve slightly with a score of 78 (+6), while Brock Seiser faced some challenges, finishing with an 81 (+9).

Final Round Struggles

Heading into the final round, the UNI team was eager to finish strong. JD Pollard once again led the charge but faced some hurdles, finishing with a score of 79 (+7) that placed him in a tie for 71st overall with a total of 227 (+11). Connor VanWeelden closely followed with a score of 76 (+4), tying him for 73rd place with a total score of 228 (+12). Tanner Dinnebier was not far behind, landing a 81 (+9) in round three to finish tied for 76th at 229 (+13). Unfortunately, Calen Bishop finished with a score of 79 (+7), landing him 88th, while Brock Seiser wrapped up the event with a tough score of 92 (+20), putting him in 90th place overall.

What’s Next for UNI Men’s Golf

While this tournament was a rocky start, the team is eager to rebound at their next event—the SDSU Jackrabbit Invitational. Scheduled for March 7-8, they will take their swings at the stunning Boulder Creek Golf Club in Nevada. Here’s hoping they find their groove and come out swinging!

The team is staying optimistic and looking forward to the challenges ahead. With a bit of practice and determination, great things are just around the corner for UNI men’s golf!
